Firewood in Mount Evelyn

Mount Evelyn is mostly green wedge and acreage, nearly all of it under the bushfire overlay, with the Warburton Trail running out towards this spring's firewood collection areas.

Nearly every house under the overlay

The Bushfire Management Overlay covers almost all of Mount Evelyn's house blocks and about nine tenths of its land. CFA's advice applies across the town: its landscaping guide puts woodpiles at least 10 m from the house, and a summer stack against the wall is an ember trap. The fire season guide has the ban-day rules for fire pits and braziers.

Green wedge and acreage

More than half of Mount Evelyn is green wedge land and another fifth is low density housing; ordinary town blocks are a small share. Bigger blocks leave room to keep the summer stack well out from the house and a winter supply nearer the back door. A long or unsealed drive is worth mentioning when you ask for a quote, along with where the wood should be tipped.

The forest is park, the trail goes to Warburton

The town sits in a right-angled bend of Olinda Creek. Its southern reserves became part of the Dandenong Ranges National Park, and no firewood can be collected in a national park.

The old railway is now the Warburton Trail, which runs out toward this spring's collection areas: designated State forest around Wesburn, Warburton and Powelltown. Collecting is allowed from 1 March to 30 June and 1 September to 30 November, fallen wood only, up to 2 m³ a person a day and 16 m³ a household a year, and none of it for sale. The collecting guide has the rest.

Yarra Ranges rules

What's the job?

How much you want, whether it should be split small for the heater, and how close a truck can get to where it's stacked.

A photo of the driveway and where the wood will be stacked helps with the quote.
